The English Bank in Maple Leaf was put to use before two years ago. At first, students needed to exchange their gifts on the fifth floor on the 25th of each month. However, from this semester, students in Junior High can exchange their gifts during the long break on the playground. In this case, students with stamps who are unwilling to climb the stairs or forget the date can easily get their reward.

On Friday morning, teachers in Junior High informed the students of the news. After class, students lined up with their notebooks full of stamps as if they were treasure boxes in their hands. They were curious about what the gifts might be. Students who exchanged their stamps and got gifts were happy because there were gifts like handwriting boards, binders, document holders, cartoon USB sticks, phone holders and so on, that not only have beauty and practical value, but also show that their hard work was paid off. One student said, “The gift is a big deal because it seems not to have much economical value, but I know that my teachers and the school care and notice if I put my heart into English study. Also I know they care and notice when I do other things.” The English Bank activity was a big deal for students.

The English Bank in Junior High will continue to open for students who learn English after class and build an English-speaking atmosphere. Students are truly encouraged in this way. They will more confident to speak English both in and after class because they don’t need to worry that others will laugh at them. They will be more engaged in English learning because they know people care about their performance.
