Environmental Science Classes with Key Competencies

Maple Leaf International School Chongqing students have the opportunity to apply their learning in a wide range of settings in all of their classes. An important part of the World School curriculum is the Key Competencies. These Key Competencies help students to develop skills to be successful not only in high school, but also when they enter university and in their daily lives. 

重庆枫叶国际学校高中部的同学在所有课堂上都能广泛地应用所学所知。枫叶世界学校课程注重培养学生核心素养能力,帮助学生发展技能,助力学生在高中、大学等学习阶段乃至日后的日常生活中获得成功。


Environmental Science 11 classes recently completed a project where they were asked to think critically about energy issues around the world. They then created posters and presented these posters to their classmates and international teachers and administration. This project helped students to develop the following Key Competencies: 

近期,学习11年级环境科学课程的同学们完成了老师布置的一项作业,批判性地思考了世界能源使用问题。同学们制作了海报并向同班同学、外教与外方校长做了详细英文讲解。


So after this presentation, what skills that our kids can get?

由此,我们的枫叶学子有哪些收获呢?


English Proficiency - Students developed their English speaking, reading, writing and listening skills through this project. 

英语能力:同学们锻炼了英语听、说、读、写四项技能。


Information Literacy - This competency was developed as students did research using English language websites. They also developed this competency when they were creating and organizing their posters. 

信息解读:准备作业的过程中,同学们使用英文网站进行调查研究,并创作和设计英文海报。


Public Speaking and Presentation Skills - Students developed this skill as they presented their learning to their classmates and teachers. 

公众演讲与展示:同学们向其他同学与外教展示他们所学的知识。


Problem Solving - Students were asked to use the information that they learned in class and during their research to provide a solution to a given problem. They were asked to give ways to solve the energy crisis problem in different countries around the world. 

问题解决:在研究调查过程中,外教要求同学们使用课堂所学信息为提出的问题提供解决方法。最后,同学们为不同国家存在的能源危机问题提供了解决方案。


Collaboration - Students needed to collaborate to complete this project and present their learning. 

团队合作:同学们合力完成了此次作业并展示了所学成果。


Respect for the Environment - Students considered the environmental impact of different energy choices and suggested more sustainable alternatives. 

尊重环境:同学们考虑了不同能源对环境的影响,并提出了可循环使用的替代能源选择。


International and Intercultural perspectives - This assignment developed this competency as students were looking at countries outside of China. They were asked to research about the country and learn about it before making their suggestion for a new, more sustainable energy choice. 

国际化和跨文化观点:学生在完成作业的过程中需放眼世界,观察中国以外的国家,调查研究并充分了解国情之后,再为该国可循环使用的新能源做提议。


Personal Responsibility and Integrity - Students were given a deadline for completing this project. They were also given class time to complete it. Students needed to work to ensure that they were on task in class and meeting their deadlines for completing the assignment. 

个人责任与诚信:学生按时完成作业,课堂上同学们紧跟老师的指导完成任务,课后再利用时间按时间节点补充完成作业。


The Key Competencies help guide teaching and learning within our Senior high school. These competencies are an important part of the curriculum that helps students to reach their goals and potential. 

核心素养能力是枫叶世界学校课程的核心组成元素,我们也会继续将其贯穿工作始终,引导高中教育教学服务,助力学生达成目标,开发自身潜能。
